iNTRO + CH@T: "How i will Spend my Christmas" - 'FREKÉ Umoh

It's just a few days to Christmas and we are truly excited.  Gospel City Naija caught up with one of the fastest rising voices in the Nigerian gospel music scene and asked him a few questions about Christmas. His name is FREKE and his sound is a combination of Soul, Afro rock and traditional tunes. 2013 has really been a year of major visibility for him.

He started singing in his teens as a member of the youth choir of his church in Lagos, Nigeria. From doing local church music ministry in Uyo and campus outreaches throughout Nigeria's southern region, Freke has gone on to become one of the most recognized voices of gospel music and is gradually becoming an international phenomenon.  He is also a graduate of Estate Management from the University of Nigeria.

His latest single, "Mary's Lamb" made its way into our FRESH CHRISTMAS HITZ compilation and is already one of the top songs released this christmas. Freke performed at the just concluded Christmas carol night put together by the Akwa Ibom State Governement in Uyo.

Obviously, home and abroad, this scion of God has been honored. Below are a few questions we asked him about christmas and his responses;

What does christmas mean to you?
Giving...Its a season for giving.

Can u relieve any fond memory u have of Christmas while growing up?
I always enjoyed the street christmas/end of year party where I grew up and of course the annual road trip from Lagos to our hometown, dad driving with mom in front and us children at the back.

Indeed, this brings a feeling of nostalgia for those who share such fond memories. So, how will you be spending your 2012 christmas day?
 As you know, the season comes with so much activities especially for artistes, but I will spend christmas day with my wife and sons at home.

Okay. Looking back at 2012, how would you describe your experience through the year?
Wonderful! God has been faithful. The album was released, we picked two nominations and great doors opened to be a blessing with our music within and outside the country [ Nigeria ].

This is what he said of his new single, 'Mary's Lamb':
Mostly, blacks don't do classical music, but I do, and this is a nice jazzy carol that people like me will enjoy and it was produced by a Naija boy too. So I dig it a lot. 'Mary's Lamb and its mesage is for the 'working minds'.

We wish him a merry Christmas and a very prosperous new year. We also wish you, the reader of this post, same.
