Do you remember them? They were known as KUSH and comprised of Lara Bajomo, Emem Ema and Toyin Shokefun . They were indeed Nigeria's darling trio who took gospel music out of the church and into the mainstream back in the early 2000s. Their superior compusure and packaging caused big ripples in mainstream music industry then. A lot of artistes, both secular and gospel, were taking cues from them.
Their debut single ‘Let’s Live Together’ was an infectious hit song. Till date, it remains one of the greatest original gospel songs to ever come out of Nigeria. Their first and only album as a group, released by DKG Music, remains a pacesetter in terms of music quality and product packaging.
The last time they performed together as a group was in 2004, at the Goethe Institute in Lagos. They had been friends since their undergraduate days at the University of Lagos so it was a shocker to many when they parted ways around late 2004-early 2005.
Now grown from girls to women, all three members are still good friends, regularly supporting each other and often collaborating.
Obviously, a lot has changed since the last time you saw these ladies together. Lara, a singer and entrepreneur is married to her partner Gbenga George. TY, now a celebrated photographer, is also married. And Emem, a rapper and songwriter, now works more as a talent manager and project coordinator, through her company.
We indeed miss them...KUSH
