Ekeng Bassey...Indeed, there is more to him than meets the eye. Last night, Gospel City Naija got talking with the US-based Nigerian singer called Tosinger, and she single-handedly pointed out this amazing bundle of gifts known as Ekeng Bassey to us. Few minutes later, we hooked up with Mr. Bassey and he opened up on some pointers.
His antecedents precede him. He is a gospel artiste, actor, and potential VJ. He has been on Tinsel, BET's Sunday Best , Glo's Naija Sings, Nigeria Got Talent, etc. Yeah, he is way above average. And yes, he has layers upon layers of talents.
Speaking to Gospel City Naija, he pointed out that "...I do gospel music cos that's the only music am good with". We love everything gospel here so we resolved to bring him to The City for this exclusive iNTRO. Read on...
Born November 5th, 1982, Ekeng Bassey is a contemporary gospel singer, song-writer and actor. He featured on season 2 of Tinsel, a Nigerian soap opera produced by M.net Africa, where he played Dayo. He also starred as Pastor Tony in Frontier Security, a Nigerian drama series.
In 1993, four years after he began an innocent walk in Christ, he wrote his first song. Since then he has written and co-written over 200 songs - some of them gaining surprisingly wide popularity in Nigerian churches, including "You Are", "Thank You, Lord", "Kosi" and "Sio Mkpo Eno Jehovah" .
He was a pioneering student of the trail blazing private institution, Covenant University. He graduated with a degree in Mass Communication in 2007, and was honored with a Mass Communication Icon Award by the Department of Mass Communication in the same year.
While in school, he was appointed the pioneering worship/praise leader of the University Chapel. In the year of his graduation, he was awarded Best Praise/Worship Leader by the University Chapel Choir Department. Ekeng found great fulfillment singing before the likes of Bishop David Oyedepo, Dr. Creflo Dollar and Pst. Matthew Ashimolowo.
After becoming the 1st runner up of The Disciple Talent Hunt, 2009, a contestant of BET Sunday Best Season 3 - where gospel singer, Donnie McClurkin said to him after a presentation, "it was literally a beautiful rendition, a beautiful voice and a beautiful spirit", top 6 of Glo Naija Sings Season 2, he served as a Lead Worshiper and Director, Media and Theater Arts of People of Prominence.

When Ekeng isn't up to anything ministry or work-related, he likes to sing, read, laugh, dance, swim, travel, cook, eat, play lawn tennis...and hang out with friends. His philosophy is "Sing. Laugh. Love." He hopes to be a blessing to the world with his gift; that's where he finds fulfillment.
Ekeng truly is a blessing to everyone who listens to him, and even more so to those who know him. His story, life and music has touched and inspired me in so many ways. I just pray the world gets a chance to hear him.
