Popularly known as God’s Own Radicals, the duo is made up of Don L and Donna T but were previously known to be a trio. With the exit of their third wheel, the duo have been performing astoundingly well with their vibrant brand of gospel music.
Right here, Gospel City Naija is proud to present their iNTRO and we promise to give you more on them. In the meantime, get familiar with them...
The duo now known as God’s Own Radicals was formed in 2001 when three young undergraduates of the then Ogun State University now known as Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago – Iwoye, Ogun State in the South – Western part of Nigeria met at a local fellowship. They had in common a passion for hip-hop and rap music and observed there was a vacuum in this genre of music in their environment.
The Trio of Daddy D, Don – L and Donna –T started out by miming songs of foreign rap and hip- hop artistes and progressed into writing, composing and arranging their own material and ministering in their local fellowship and at other concerts in and around the University environment. The moniker: God’s Own Radicals came up as a result of the fact that at the time they started rap was not popular as a genre of gospel or contemporary Christian music as it was seen as too secular. Thus stepping out and doing something against the established norms made them radicals of some sort.
God’s Own Radicals is now left with Don – L and Donna – T as Daddy withdrew from the group upon his graduation from the University. Together they have continued to record songs working with producers like the award winning Biglo, Pagag McOyett, E Twinz, Dr Sankty, Kayode Omotade, 2009 Channel O Music Video Awards nominee The Dream, E Kelly amongst others. They have shot videos directed by multiple award nominee Ak One which have received generous airplay on stations around the country and on the continent on both Terrestrial and Satellite Platforms.
With 2 full length Studio Albums (Under Construction – 2010 and 20DOZEN: The Call – 2012) and a 17 track mixtape (UNLEASHED: VOL1 – 2011) God’s Own Radicals employ a sound that is distinctly Nigerian with thumping drumlines and driving beats as well as the use of indigenous languages along with the English language in their songs. The songs cover a wide range of subjects with emphasis on the praise of the Most High God as well as the daily living. Now married to each other, Don – L and Donna – T are determined to keep spreading the Word to the ends of the earth. This they do by ministering in churches, concerts and events around the country. They also organize the R.A.G.E (Righteous Anointed Gospel Emissaries) series, an event put together to reach out to young people using contemporary music forms and feature Music Ministers who find expression in such contemporary music forms as Hiphop, Rap, RnB, Soft Rock amongst others.
God’s Own Radicals have now become regular fixtures at the monthly praise conference Mega Praise Summit put together by their home Church, The Breath Of Life Ministry. They can be followed on www.houseofradikalzng.com and on social network sites on twitter, facebook, myspace as well as reverbnation
