Sometime this week, we got to meet with a remarkable gospel music minister who has got layers we found quite interesting. His name is De Priest and he is one of the very few people we have walking around with a good heart and commitment to fulfilling purpose.
De Priest is quite an interesting personality to meet. His calm mien gives him off as one cool-headed individual who has harnessed his skills and gift set over the years so it struck no surprise on us when we had a brief chat with him prior to this iNTRO.
One thing to note about this gentleman is the fact that he is committed to helping people find purpose and worth. Thus, besides his music ministry, he is also a lecturer that is warmly loved by his students. As A matter of fact, he holds a PhD in Finance.
Today, we are giving him the spotlight on Gospel City Naija. It’s apt that you get to know about him because we’ll be premiering some of his songs and covering some of his ministry-related activities right here as soon as they are made available.Besides being a gospel music minister, Dr. Samuel Ogunbiyi, aka De Priest, is working with the University of Port Harcourt as a lecturer with the Department of Banking and Finance. He is also a cinematographer, writer and a movie director.
With such an impressive starter to his profile, there is much to look out for in this amiable gentleman. He grew up largely in the barracks because his dad was an army officer. His childhood plan was to join the army but that didn’t fall through as he left it to manifest in other areas of endeavor.
De Priest started singing in secondary school choir as far back as 1984. He was quite active as a young chorister and was made to represent his church in a gospel program in Italy back then. He later joined an accapella music group while in the university called "Soul Blazers". Together, they rocked the gospel music scene between 1995 to 1998, and performed with several notable music ministers back then.
While getting his first and second degree in the university, Dr. Ogunbiyi took some professional film courses(editing & movie directing) and this qualified him as a cinematographer and member of the Directors Guild of Nigeria. He also set up his film/media outfit as an upshot of this.
Back to the music, he started his professional music ministry in 2008 with the recording of his first set of singles. De Priest also worked towards the release of his solo album during this period while still lecturing in the university. Somewhere in the course of this, he hooked up with Mr. Kenneth of Kennex Media and together, they began a more professional ascent for his music career.
Hence, he recorded more songs and had an album listening party that largely introduced him as a solo gospel artiste.Today, De Priest is ready with several materials and projects lined up to impact the public with his ministry. Gospel City Naija had a glimpse at some of these projects while we interacted with his management.
De Priest is married with three lovely kids and it sure is a wonder to us to see how he has achieved such a balance in his calling, career, passion and position as a husband and daddy. With this iNTRO, we officially welcome you to the world of this ebullient gospel music minister that has more facets to him than the regular. We implore you to stay on for more on him right here on Gospel City Naija and beyond.
