Obviously, he is one gospel artiste whose music transcends beyond the confines of the church. A bonafide music man and astute Jesus fan, time after time, Nigerian-born El Mafrex has proved that the mantle of songship was indeed bestowed on him and has never relented in pushing his sound beyond barriers quite seamlessly.
This year, the artiste seems to be on a spree to pick up awards from platforms that seem quite implausible for his contemporaries. It started with his nomination and subsequent wins at the just concluded Scottish New Music Awards where he picked the awards for ‘Best New Artiste’ and ‘Urban Recording of The Year’. Currently, he has been nominated for the ‘Best Gospel Act’ award from the most prestigious award academy in the UK, the MOBO Awards.
Speaking to Gospel City, El Mafrex pointed out that he “just got the news that I had been nominated in the forthcoming MOBO Awards. I didn’t send my song to them or any of that…the call just came through and took me by surprise…”
Indeed, sweet surprises are what the artiste is in for this year. Gospel City Naija is proud of his efforts so far and we plan to run an exclusive profile on him this week. Meanwhile, follow the link below to register and vote for El Mafrex in the ‘Best Gospel Act’ category of the 17th annual MOBO Awards.
